How to Prepare for Your Hair Transplant at Ziering Medical
The hair restoration process is not always an easy one, but it doesn’t have to be. At Ziering Medical, we aim to deliver the most natural looking hair transplant results and to provide an equally excellent patient experience. Having a hair transplant procedure does not have to be stressful! We are here to help make the process as smooth and hassle free as possible. This is why even before patients undergo treatment, we provide them with an in-depth education of all the proven hair loss treatment options along with ample review of the steps of both types of hair transplant procedures we perform. For those who have decided that it is time to do something about their receding hairline and are planning a hair transplant, here are a few preparations you may need to consider before undertaking the procedure.Â
Getting Early Intervention for Hair Loss is Ideal
Early diagnosis and intervention for hair loss will result in better results, so don’t wait for the hair loss to reach a significant level. At Ziering Medical, we aim to provide a course of preventative treatment to slow down the hair loss our patients are experiencing and preserve as much native hair as possible. Ideally, we can stop the hair loss from becoming too significant, before our patients’ self-confidence and image are negatively impacted.
Choosing the Right Clinic and TeamÂ
The first step is to choose the clinic that will handle the hair transplantation procedure. Zierings’ satisfied patients often came to their decision to opt for a hair transplant after realizing they experienced significant hair loss and searching for a hair restoration clinic they could trust.Â
This process involved a lot of research and visitations. Those who went to Ziering Medical for consultations saw first hand the caliber of Ziering’s services. Our patients often express the relief they felt when they saw the care and expertise offered at Ziering Medical. They could see how the team treated patients, approaching them genuinely and kindly, and they knew that they were receiving a personalized treatment plan made to address their specific needs.Â
On the other hand, our patients have expressed that what they saw in other establishments felt off or rubbed them the wrong way by being too sales-y or generic. Most patients also have concerns about unnatural-looking outcomes. With research they realized that Ziering Medical had the right skills and artistry to meet their needs. Plus, Ziering Medical has a proven record, serving prominent celebrities, athletes, and influencers from around the globe. Seeing the clinic’s commitment to help them was what led our patients to make their decision. They could proceed to the next step of the hair restoration process with confidence.Â
Questions to Ask Your Hair Transplant Surgeon
Wondering how much a hair transplant will cost you? Concerned about how the operation will turn out? You should consider these questions.
- What are the surgeon’s credentials? What training did they have? Are they Board Certified?
- What technology does the hair transplant clinic utilize and how experienced is the surgeon and the team with the procedure? Is the surgeon an innovator or an imitator?
- What procedures does this surgeon perform? Do they have a reputation? Are they capable of all the required procedures without being limited by skills, expertise or staffing?
- How passionate is the surgeon about hair restoration? Do they specialize in hair transplant surgery only, or do they address the other aspects of hair loss and hair restoration?
- Have they provided realistic patient Before and After photos?
- Did they provide a patient referral list so you can confer with other patients and ask about their experiences?
- Are your grafts certified?
- How well did the surgeon explain your graft count versus your hair count for the procedure? Have you been fully informed of the nature of the treatment you are buying?
- Is the surgeon well-versed with facial symmetry and balance, and how this relates to enhancing the patient’s facial appearance with a hair transplant procedure by providing natural-looking results?
- Are you partnering with a long-term clinical practice with an established reputation for caring for patients, with the commitment to change the industry by broadening the access to hair restoration technologies and pushing the science further by researching and developing new techniques?Â
Undertaking a Hair Follicle Assessment at Ziering Medical
After patients decide to have a consultation at Ziering Medical, we assess the state of their scalp and hair follicles. This is to determine the level of hair loss they are experiencing and their exact hair restoration needs. This is how we determine if they need hair transplantation, or if other less invasive methods will suffice.Â
The follicle assessment process is aided by our high-tech diagnostic equipment, particularly the state of the art oVio360 machine. This apparatus embodies Ziering Medical’s investment in best-in-class equipment, which extends beyond the treatment devices used in the operating room.Â
Looking like something out of science fiction, this is a first-of-its-kind photo imaging technology utilizing two HD cameras to provide 360-degree views of our patients’ scalps. The stills and video captured during a patient’s consultation provide our surgeons with the highest level of visibility of our patients’ hair loss. This allows them to determine the level of hair loss and create fully customized treatment plans.
This is part of how we can tend to our patients with precision, and why patients can rest assured that their hairlines are in the best hands at Ziering Medical.Â
Preparing for Hair Transplant Surgery
Before the operation your surgeon will provide specific instructions on how to prepare for the procedure. This includes what to eat and drink, what to refrain from, such as alcohol and smoking. Certain vitamins and medications may also be recommended or prescribed. Following these steps will help the hair transplantation surgery go smoothly.Â
For a follicular unit excision or FUE hair transplant these preparations include:
- Refraining from smoking for at least a day before the surgery.
- Avoiding alcohol at least three days before surgery.
- Stop taking aspirin or blood thinners for about two weeks prior to the operation.
- Avoiding vitamins and dietary supplements for two weeks prior to the operation.
- Avoid taking antidepressants for two weeks prior to the operation.
- Do not get haircuts before the operation.
- Perform scalp massages 10 to 30 minutes a day for several weeks prior to the operation to promote blood flow to the scalp.Â
- Complying with any medication prescribed by the surgeon such as minoxidil.
- Taking the necessary tests and blood work before the operation.
Arrange for someone to drive you home after the surgery. And avoid strenuous or stressful activities for some time afterwards (your doctors will give you a specific time frame at your pre-operative appointment). For post-operative and recovery instructions, we also have a guide to help get comfortable sleep after FUE hair transplants.
