Dr. Ziering Mentioned in FlowSpace and NewsBreak | Eyebrows Are the Next Frontier of Hair Restoration

They might not be revered like eyes—often called the “windows to the soul”—or celebrated in dozens of love songs like lips, but eyebrows are undoubtedly a defining feature of a person’s face. So, when someone begins to experience unwanted thinning or hair loss in that area, it can have a devastating impact. “Eyebrows play a major role in framing the face and enhancing facial expressions,” IAT Certified Trichologist Sara Hallajian tells Flow Space. “They help show emotion, provide symmetry, and create definition. Even subtle changes to the brows can significantly shift how balanced or expressive the face appears.”
In the 1990s and early 2000s, thin eyebrows were a popular beauty trend, with celebrities such as Drew Barrymore, Gwen Stefani, and Christina Aguilera sporting barely-there brows. Armed with tweezers, many of us happily followed suit, thinking nothing of the overplucking until the thinned-out look fell out of favor and our brows failed to grow back. However, that’s not the only culprit. As Dr. Craig L. Ziering, board-certified dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon, explains, other factors, such as hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause, thyroid imbalances, certain medications, underlying autoimmune conditions, and inflammatory scalp conditions like Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA), can all contribute to eyebrow hair loss. “In many cases, it’s a combination of factors that gradually weakens the growth cycle and leads to sparse-looking eyebrows,” he tells Flow Space.
