PRE OP SCALP EXERCISES
Begin doing your scalp exercises as early as you can before your surgery. The exercises should be done rigorously for about five minutes each day, twice a day until your surgery date. Concentrate most of your efforts on the back of your scalp rather than the sides, but make sure you move and stretch all of your scalp.
Scalp exercises improve scalp laxity, increase the available tissue, allowing the surgeon to close the donor area with more ease and less scarring and enable more grafts to be harvested for your hair transplant procedure.
Locate the ridge running along the back of your skull. Clasp your hands together and place them slightly above this ridge, keeping your palms flat.
Next, press your hands forward toward your forehead. Keep them in this position and then begin moving your scalp up and down. Apply enough pressure against your head so that your scalp moves and your hands don’t simply slip over your hair.
Finally, adjust the position of your hands to match the photo above. Since surgeons take a long narrow strip, it is important for you to stretch the sides of your scalp even though they are typically loose already. Use the same up and down movement to relax this area.
