Like many men going a little thin on top, Patrick Shaw has been watching his hair recede on the hairline around his face and he’s worried about the onset of balding. According to the UK’s Department of Health he is one of 6.5 million British men who experience hair loss. Most men have some hair loss by the age of 60 and for most this is a natural part of the aging process. But some men start experience hair loss from their teenage years and the balding can have an impact on a man’s feeling of masculinity. As a staff member of Ziering Medical, Shaw is being allowed to become the first in Britain the try out the new robot. The start of the process is much the same. The hair is clipped short. The donor and graft sites are prepared and injected with anaesthetic. Shaw says he has no feeling and no pain. Aged 38 Shaw is not considerably bald, but says he’s be increasingly concerned by the progressive retreat of the hairline on his forehead.
